There Are No Coincidences by Darrah J. Perez

IMG_20151225_134442Recently I read a book by Rhonda Byrne called The Secret. In The Secret she explains the universe’s magic remedy called gratitude—Gratitude for all things whether good or bad.

During the course of my reading I began putting into action being grateful for everything, especially when things were not going as pleasantly planned and by golly, the negativity subsided and a shift happened.

I recognized blessings of new beginnings, unexpected checks in the mail, job promotions, and my family life being as well as ever. I learned in life there is no such thing as coincidence, but instead opportunities and lessons presented when we feel that, “this is a strange moment.” It is because the universe is talking to us. The universe is giving us those moments of opportunity. It is at those times we hesitate, asking ourselves, “What do I do?” It is best to never question destiny’s fate, instead go with what the heart desires.

I have been doing just that, I must say, “I should of paid attention a while back.” Maybe it was not meant for me to get this lesson until now. I believe it happened the exact way it was meant to happen.

Shortly after I began reading another book, Nurturing Healing Love by Scarlett Lewis. A book about shifting anger to love to heal all pains and get positive outcomes. Again I began doing this. A gal who I recently had a dispute with who hurt me tremendously, emotionally and physically was causing these great feelings of anger in my life. I simply chose to forgive her for all she had done to me. The first step was to tell her I forgave her. I said it and felt it, but yet I still had a little shy anger wanting to come out. It was days later when I began reading this book, and now I feel better for taking that first step of forgiveness.

Reading to me is important, especially when I’m taught a great lesson. I love books. Inspirational books are my favorite and is also the topic I choose to write about. Being inspirational allows me to feel I am making a change in the world. Sometimes I may say things a little too bluntly, but that to me is a gift—the gift to say things exactly how I feel is something not everyone has. Others may focus on how they may be viewed after, by family, friends, even strangers. Me, I’ve lived a hard life and seen a lot of unpleasant things, I choose to write about all of it to become a better me.

At times, I may get upset with thoughts, “Not enough people are reading these days, not enough people care, I need more readers of my books to get my messages out there.” These are all thoughts that come with my strong desire to be good at the things I write about.

People ask me, “What are your books about?” I simply tell them, “As a poet, my books are about my hardships in life and the lessons learned from each.” I put my poetry skills to use and have included a poem in each chapter. These are my stories, my feelings on paper. I wouldn’t write if I didn’t think my writing had a purpose. I just wish for that purpose to not be so damn hard. I know I’ve come a long way and I see the progress I’ve made, and that will always make me remember, “There are no coincidences in life, life happens the way it happens.”Quote There are no coincidences in life only taught lessons

  1. What a blessing to read such an inspirational post, Darrah. I love the books by Rhonda Byrne and have them all. I enjoy them on my iPod while walking. We all forget to be grateful sometimes and like you, I believe there are no coincidences. Thank you for sharing this information with us. Enjoyed it very much!

  2. Being more grateful and forgiving is a way we should all live, especially me. I tend to carry around anger and resentment and have to check myself at the door sometimes, as they say, and remember that forgiveness is for me, not necessarily the wrong-doer. We all go through tough and rough times and each is personal, but you are so right, Darrah — having a grateful and forgiving heart helps us in so many ways, personally and corporately. Very inspiring post — thank you!

  3. One of the verses from my Bible that sits in my mind, and is sometimes difficult but always brings some kind of peace is “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18 I find too, when I do this, I recognize and see more positives happening in my life. Giving thanks for all things includes missing hitting that car, seeing that flower, a bird sitting near me, a gift or kind word that was unexpected, etc.
Thanks for the inspirational post and reiterating that gratefulness is an important attribute and yields rewards. I love your attitude in meeting life!

  4. Writing a list of things to be grateful for every morning or evening is a great way to start or end your day. Keeping focused on the good things in life brings more of them to you. I love how more and more people are accepting this and acting this way. Good post..

  7. Darrah, what you call the universe, I call the Holy Spirit, and each of these guide us through life, sometimes we accept it, sometimes we act on it and sometimes we ignore that guidance. My devotiinal book sounds similar to yours, a famous poem, one of my poems, a life experience, and a plan for improvement in each chapter. Thanks for all the reminders. Cher’ley

  8. Thanks for the reminder that it’s better to turn anger to forgiveness. Sometimes this is hard to do and I admire you for your strength. Great inspirational post, Darrah.

  9. As I get older, I find that I don’t always handle stress as well as I did when I was much younger. And I’ve had some real stress in my life in my younger days, especially helping take care of my mother after she was diagnosed with ALS. I like your philosophy, Darrah. As Sarah commented, better to transform anger into forgiveness.

  10. Quite inspirational. I too often forget how much for which I have to be grateful. Thanks for reminding me.

  11. Thanks for sharing. I think from time to time we all need to be reminded how fortunate we are and all the things we have to be grateful for. I am not a materialistic person so I don’t count things or possessions among the things I am grateful for rather I include family, friends, and health
