I’m so broke, I went to McDonald’s and put a milkshake on lay-a-way.
That’s how I’m feeling. I drive an 18 Wheeler, and when it breaks down, it’s major money.
Like a bad joke:
So far in the last two months we have spent almost twice as much as we’ve made. (That’s Bad) (No that’s Good) Praise God for Credit Cards, we would never survive without them (That’s Good) (No that’s Bad) With our health not being so good it will take us a long time to pay them off.(That’s Bad) (No that’s Good) At least we have a job. Ups and downs just like everyone else.
No matter how many books I write “Stamp Out Murder” will always be my baby. For the first time ever. I got a bad review. I didn’t argue with the person, but I did try to find him, there doesn’t seem to be such a person.

Sorry to hear fo the truck troubles and the negative review. LIfe does do that to you, as evideced by the basement damages in the thousands. But like you point out, is is good or bad or just is. You are in my thoughts. Doris

Since I grew up on a farm where much heavy equipment is used–combines, diggers, tractors, balers, rakes, etc.–I understand the breaking down and money spent/lost when the method of making money dries up for those who are self-employed. Sorry about your truck. But one can always find some good along with the bad if they choose to dig for it. As you so cleverly point out in your blog. Your book sounds delightful and intriguing. What a clever blog. A friend finally had a negative review and it took our writers group to encourage her to continue writing. She said the woman must have been dispeptic, I said menopausal, and we had fun coming up with why this particular critic said some really hurtful things. But we must write for ourselves as well as others! Keep up the good work.

As an insurance adjuster for truck owner/operators (most of our clients), I totally understand your pain. We run across so many of our insureds who end up losing money because their truck either got stolen or damaged. Or they delivered damaged cargo due to an accident or something broke down through no fault of their own and the broker withholds their pay. As far as negative reviews, I think all of us authors go through that. The fact that it’s your first says a lot! Here’s to things looking up for you and that we’re all in the same boat as far as those readers who just don’t get our “babies.” Great post, Cher’ley.

It’s a thick skin we authors need when something like that review happens, Cher’ley. It’s so easy to say forget it and move on but when other things are also difficult in life, everything seems to get magnified – bad and good. The truck repairs and expenses have to be so draining but you’ve got lots to look forward to in Florida and you’ve got fabulous little ‘uns in the family to cheer you both up.

My most frustrating bad review wasn’t even for my book. The person said that the copy I’d provided for them to read was messed up, so they didn’t read it and gave it a 1* rating. I tried the high road and sent the person a free copy of the book, but never got any response and the review is still there to this day. I could deal with it if he or she actually hadn’t liked the book, but to pan it without even reading it is maddening.

Although bad reviews hurt, I always try to look at it this way: writing is an art, and just like a painting, it will appeal to some and not to others. I had someone write a review about one of the devotion books that said, “less God and more dogs!” What do they think a devotion book is if it’s not about God?! (head shake here). Yes, so many of us are going through so much right now, some good, some bad — I just wish we’d all see a bit more good in the near future. Wishing you well always, Cher’ley!

Hang in there things will get better. As for the review you have remember you can’t please everyone. Since he didn’t use his real name you have to wonder if he even read the book.
